Clear and concise
To be concise:
- stick closely to your topic
- use simple, short sentences
- avoid repetition, uncommon words, government-speak
- don't use metaphors if you can help it
- use hyperlinks to give examples or background information.
To be clear:
- put the most important information at the top of the screen
- limit each paragraph to one idea
- break text into short sections with spaces in between
- use bulleted and/or numbered lists where possible
- use short, clear headings and subheadings
- highlight words containing key information, not whole sentences and only where needed
- use tooltips for giving small examples of text, such as measurements (tooltip: mm, m, km and so on).
